Before joining Momo’s Lab as a PhD student, Jakob earned a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Heidelberg. During his studies, he engaged in a broad range of research topics but developed a particular passion for infectious and oncological diseases. This interest was fundamentally shaped by his research experiences with Dr. Jennifer Keiser at the Swiss-TPH and by Dr. Victoria Ingham at the University of Heidelberg, where he also completed his Master’s thesis. His dedication to oncology stems from internships with Dr. Nikolas Gunkel at the DKFZ and at Novartis, where he gained insights into the process of translating scientific ideas into therapeutic applications that benefit patients. Outside of science, Jakob enjoys spending time outdoors — hiking, biking, or skiing.
